A postal clerk from Westminster faces a maximum sentence of 90 years in prison after being convicted by a federal jury of embezzling postal funds and filing fraudulent loan applications.
Sentencing for Lorita Frazier, 47, is scheduled for Sept. 11, according to a release from the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Baltimore. She was found guilty Thursday of embezzlement, wire fraud and two counts of bank fraud, according to the release.
Frazier worked as a clerk at the Randallstown post office and was responsible for collecting cash from all window clerks and consolidating the money. According to the release, she embezzled roughly $74,000 between October 2004 and June 2005 by taking money from the deposits and issuing postal money orders to herself.
Evidence at the trial showed Frazier applied for loans from a Baltimore credit union and a mortgage lender by falsely claiming income from a day-care center, according to the release. She prepared false income tax returns and bank statements to document the income.
Witnesses testified the credit union used the false information to approve loans for $56,670.50 and $100,152.45, which Frazier used to buy a 2004 Porsche and a 2004 Porsche Turbo, according to the release.
Frazier also got a loan from the mortgage lender to refinance her mortgage to $504,000.
