Noah Sheasby, 3, of Westminster, looked up at a retail store wall covered in costumes.
“OK, bud,” said his father, Chris. “Which one do you like?”
Noah had a difficult decision to make.
At first, he pointed to a red Spider-Man costume. Then he mentioned an interest in the two different Batman costumes, one blue, one “Dark Knight”-inspired.
After about 30 minutes, Noah decided he liked the blue Batman costume, complete with a superhero jumpsuit, cape and belt the best.
“That is the one,” Chris said, before walking up to the cash register at Spirit Halloween in Westminster Wednesday.
With hundreds of costumes available, picking a Halloween disguise can be a daunting challenge, no matter how young or old you are.
Spirit Halloween assistant manager Jennifer Williams listed a wide range of expected favorites for Halloween. She said Star Wars character costumes should sell well, along with Sesame Street costumes of Ernie, Bert and Oscar the Grouch. Williams said the more risqué costumes, including a Playboy cheerleader outfit and a Bat Girl miniskirt, are likely to be popular once again in October.
Buycostumes.com is offering several new costumes this year, including Star Wars, G.I. Joe and Super Mario and Luigi disguises for youths.

Spirit Halloween predicted Michael Jackson costumes could be the hottest sellers this year.
“I’m sure they are going to go,” Williams said.
Other expected favorites included Kate Gosselin and Sarah Palin wigs and G.I. Joe and Transformers costumes.
Most costumes range in price from $29.95 to $59.95. For those looking for cheaper alternatives, some wigs and masks range in price from $15 to $30.
Super hero costumes, which have become traditional favorites, were among the most in demand at Spirit Halloween Wednesday.
Just moments after Noah walked out of the store with his Batman costume and plastic Dark Knight Jack-o-Lantern, Brennan Murray and Kim Reed, of Hampstead, made a similar purchase for their one-year-old son, Cayden.
With their son still too young to make his own disguise choice, Murray and Reed decided to have Cayden be Batman for Halloween. He’ll be whisked around on Halloween by two of Batman’s most infamous villains.
Murray said he is going to be The Joker for Halloween. Reed is planning to be Catwoman.
