Ravens/B>
by Anthony Rinaudo/I>
It is officially fall in Carroll County. The temperature has started to plunge; however, the stock of the Baltimore Ravens is rising.
As a hometown hopeful, I watch the Ravens with anticipation every weekend, as most of you do as well. Being a Ravens fan has been natural to me since I was young. My father has influenced me from an early age to have “purple pride.”
There are many teams that are supported across the county, but, one team is truly shining at the moment. With an overpowering offense and a devouring defense, the Ravens are in a triumphant rhythm these first three weeks of the NFL season.
With a rough schedule ahead, the Ravens will have a handful of challenging games to play. A true test of their ability will be when the Ravens match up against teams such as the New England Patriots and the defending Super Bowl champion Pittsburgh Steelers. Also, the Indianapolis Colts will pose a threat as they always do.
Nonetheless, with the Ravens’ execution on both sides of the ball, this season is very promising. As disappointments of another losing season for the Orioles linger in the air around Charm City, we can turn that disappointment into hope.
Hope for tomorrow. Hope for another Vince Lombardi trophy this February, and hope to be champions of the world, once again.

Steelers
By Summer Bowling
What I am about to proclaim may automatically make me your friend or your enemy. I love the Pittsburgh Steelers. There actually are two reasons why I support them, and the main one is rather silly.
In sixth grade, my Language Arts teacher told us if the Steelers won a game that Sunday, we wouldn’t have vocabulary words. Alas, we eventually did have vocabulary homework, although the Steelers went on to win that year’s Super Bowl.
The other reason makes much more sense. I was born in Gettysburg, Pa., which is about equidistant from Pittsburgh, Steelers territory, and Philadelphia, Eagles territory. My sister supports the Eagles, so we both do our Pennsylvania roots proud.
I’m very glad I chose to like the Steelers. They
are the current Super
Bowl champions and are
a very well-respected team. Even a friend of mine who hates the Steelers likes Ben Roethlisberger.
At school, most students and teachers are Ravens fans, closely followed by Steelers fans, then the other football teams. Some people at school are much more opinionated about their football teams than their political parties. Steelers Nation is great, and we know it.
The Steelers aren’t off to a great start this year, but you never know what could happen.

Redskins
By Jake Rill
Living in Carroll County, the majority of football coverage is centered on the Baltimore Ravens. The front page of the sports section is usually plastered with Ravens news, while the Washington Redskins get relegated to the back page.
People all around Carroll County get excited to see the Ravens come to Westminster for training camp in late summer. Banners and signs welcoming them are hung all around the town. However, I do not wear purple and black and I am not “Wacko for Flacco.” I support the burgundy and gold of the Redskins.
When I was growing up, I was not into watching football. I was a fan of baseball and NASCAR. Every Sunday I would spend watching the weekly NASCAR race instead of the football games taking place. Being a fan of NASCAR, I was used to seeing Joe Gibbs on television, as he was at every race to support his team, Joe Gibbs Racing.
In 2004, Joe Gibbs came out of football retirement and returned to the Redskins as head coach. At the same time, I had started to develop an interest in football. I wasn’t sure what team to root for. I decided I would cheer for the Redskins, since Gibbs was a NASCAR owner and the Redskins did play in Landover.
Ever since 2004, I have been a die-hard fan of the Redskins. Even when times are bad, I will stay a loyal Redskins fan.
