There & Back

Sept. 14: The Times, it is a-changin
Friday, October 09, 2009

I’m sure astute readers noticed some changes to the paper Friday. The biggest is the move of the obituaries to the A section. But the one that affects me personally, and thus the one I care most about, is the return of Synergy.

Synergy, the section for and mostly written by Carroll’s teens, took the place of Travel, as it does every fall. It’s sad for me, as I like traveling much more than I liked high school, but I think the Synergy section is pretty innovative. Even if the name makes no sense.

But fear not loyal readers. Or rather reader. Or rather Mom. I’ll still try to fit a travel page in the section as often as space allows. And as I said in the last On the Road video, a new video will be up the last Friday of each month. (On a related note, I haven’t decided where to go this month, so if anyone has suggestions, let me know.)

I’ll also try to update the There & Back page on the Carroll County Times Web site.

In the meantime, I urge you all to take solace in this Web site, which goes with the first serial story in Synergy: www.warriorcats.com.

The basic premise of the story, which will run for 15 weeks, is that wild cats gather in clans and train as warriors to hunt for food and defend their territory. The serial story is about Rusty, now known as Firepaw, who leaves his cushy life as a pet to join ThunderClan.

The site has a lot of information about the series. It also has a hunting game. And you can find out your warrior name and what clan you belong to. Fun fact: My warrior name is Spottedhead, and I’m in the ShadowClan.
