The Stevenson volleyball team, led by former Liberty coach David Trumbo, might be struggling. But three former county standouts have been performing well.
The Mustangs entered Monday on a five-game skid. However, Liberty graduate Alex Mercer, Francis Scott Key grad Dani Katsampis and Westminster alumnus Jen Glock have remained consistent.
Mercer, a junior, has been a force for Stevenson. She entered Tuesday ranked second on the team with 149 kills, a team-high 54 blocks and 19 digs. Mercer stood second in the Capital Athletic Conference with a .294 hitting percentage and went into Tuesday with double-digit kills in four consecutive matches.
Mercer posted those numbers playing in just 16 of Stevenson’s first 18 matches.
As of Monday Katsampis, a junior, ranked third on the team with 138 kills. She also stood among Mustang leaders with 118 digs and 22 blocks.
Glock, a sophomore, took 73 kills, 38 blocks (second on the team behind Mercer), 10 service aces and 23 digs into the week.
Stevenson was 7-11 overall and 1-2 in the CAC entering Tuesday’s match against Hood. Trumbo’s Mustangs have 14 matches remaining until the conference tournament.
HOLLASCH STOUT FOR TERROR: Senior goalkeeper Rob Hollasch (Liberty) has helped the McDaniel men’s soccer team (6-5, 3-1 Centennial) move into a six-way tie for first place in the conference.
Hollasch has played in eight games, starting six, and leads McDaniel with a 1.37 goals-against average. He owns a .750 save percentage and ranks sixth in the Centennial with 27 saves.

After entering conference play with a 3-4 record, the Terror have won three of their last four, all against Centennial foes, to muddle the conference race.
CLANCY-STONE CLASH: When former Westminster teammates Kevin Clancy and Dan Stone faced each other on the college football field Saturday, Clancy’s Shepherd squad ended on top.
The Rams edged Concord 34-31 in a crucial West Virginia Intercollegiate Athletic Conference clash, and both former Owls contributed to their teams’ cause.
Clancy, Shepherd’s junior starting quarterback, went 12-for-21 for 153 yards, a touchdown and an interception. He also rushed for 19 yards and wasn’t sacked. Stone, a senior defensive lineman, had four tackles for Concord, including 1.5 behind the line of scrimmage.
